Digging_Front_CoverDigging Up Paradise by Sarah Salway is the focus of a competition run by Visit Kent, running from 16-29 June 2014. The book, featuring twenty-six gardens in Kent, is a wonderful hybrid of poetry, history, journal entries, photographs and prompts for writing – or writing seeds, as Sarah calls them.

To celebrate the launch of Digging Up Paradise, Visit Kent and their partners have teamed up with Cultured Llama to offer a fantastic set of prizes. The overall winner will enjoy an overnight stay for two at Rowhill Grange Hotel with £80 to spend on dinner, and breakfast and a spa treatment included. But that’s not all! The winner will also receive two tickets to Penshurst Place and Gardens and Finchcocks Musical Museum, both featured in Digging Up Paradise, plus a signed copy of the book. Four runners-up will receive signed copies, too.

The competition is open until 29 June 2014. Enter now at Visit Kent: http://www.visitkent.co.uk/digging-up-paradise-competition

Postcards from the Hedge – Sarah Salway in the Independent on Sunday

Sarah Salway, author of Digging Up Paradise is featured in a marvellous article by Emma Townshend in the Independent on Sunday. http://ind.pn/1pyXUFD

Sarah talks about her love of gardens and how creative writing events in gardens led to her writing the book.

… as Canterbury laureate, she began to work on a portrait of Kent, a county nicknamed “the garden of England”, through some of its green spaces, including, alongside world-renowned acres such as Knole, the Secret Gardens of Sandwich, and at least one shell grotto. First it was a blog, at writerinthegarden.com, and now it’s a book, out in June, Digging Up Paradise, (Cultured Llama, £12).
