Sounds of the Real World launch in Broadstairs

The launch of Sounds of the Real World, a new poetry collection by Gordon Meade, takes place on 9 November 2013 at The Chapel Broadstairs. Several other Cultured Llama authors will be reading: Bethany W Pope, Maria C McCarthy, Mark Holihan, Philip Kane and Michael Curtis, whose new collection is forthcoming in 2014. There will be music from Sienna-Janae Holihan and Bob Carling, plus an open mic for poets. The event is free and starts at 2.00 p.m. For further details, go to the Events page.

Rose Cook in Barnstaple, Hilda Sheehan in Tunbridge Wells – the choice is yours

You have the choice of two events on 19 November, depending on what part of the country you live in. Rose Cook will be reading from her latest poetry collection Notes From a Bright Field at the Gallery Sessions Relaunch in Barnstaple with several other Apples and Snakes poets. Hilda Sheehan will be reading from her debut poetry collection The Night My Sister Went to Hollywood at the Kent and Sussex Poetry Society, reading alongside Dick Jones, on the same evening. For further details of both events, go to the Events page.

The Night My Sister Went to Hollywood  by Hilda Sheehan gets a cracking review by Anita Skeen in Poetry Salzburg Review 24. Here’s a quote:

‘Oh the places I’ve been, but I’ve still got to visit a house that stopped breathing, ride a streetcar with Vivien Leigh, have a conversation with the seal next door, who has trouble staying wet. Hilda Sheehan’s The Night My Sister Went to Hollywood, characterised by Robert Vas Dias as “seductively surreal language” is strange and wonderful, funny and heartbreaking.’

Christmas is Coming…
