The Circle of Life – Dying Matters Exhibition
7 -31 May 2019
MCH House, Bailey Drive, Gillingham ME8 0PZ
Maria C. McCarthy has two pieces from her poetry collection strange fruits on display at the Circle of Life Exhibition: a poem, ‘Slipping Down’; and a prose piece, ‘Where the High Street meets Star Hill’. All profits from the sale of strange fruits to MacMillan Cancer Support.
The Medway based ‘Brown Bread Collective’ is organising an exhibition of creative works entitled ‘The Circle Of Life’ as part of National Dying Matters week. The exhibition will kindly be hosted by Medway Community Healthcare, a local community provider, at MCH House in Gillingham; and will be an opportunity for artists, creatives, photographers and poets to submit work inspired by the subject, bringing attention to an often taboo topic.
These prints will be displayed at MCH House, in reception, from 7th to 31st May.
Heidi Shute, Engagement Director at MCH says: “We manage palliative care and the Wisdom Hospice locally and firmly believe that talking openly and with compassion about death and dying are vital to providing the right care. With that in mind, this collaboration with the Brown Bread Collective will highlight death through art – sparking conversation and raising awareness locally.”
The event is part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, which has been organised by the Dying Matters Coalition, to encourage people to talk openly about dying, death and bereavement. Throughout Dying Matters Awareness Week, events and activities are being held up and down the country to raise awareness about end of life issues.
